"I believe that imagination is stronger than knowledge -- myth is more potent than history -- dreams are more powerful than facts -- hope always triumphs over experience -- laughter is the cure for grief -- love is stronger than death." Robert Fulghum

Quiet Girl by Langston Hughes
I would liken you
To a night without stars
Were it not for your eyes.
I would liken you
To a sleep without dreams
Were it not for your songs.

"We ourselves feel that what we are doing is just a drop in the ocean. But the ocean would be less because of that missing drop." Mother Teresa

"I wanted a perfect ending. Now I've learned, the hard way, that some poems don't rhyme, and some stories don't have a clear beginning, middle, and end. Life is about not knowing, having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it, without knowing what's going to happen next. Delicious Ambiguity." -Gilda Radner

todos los personas.

POEM FOR EVERY PERSON
by John Thomas Wood

I will present you
parts
of
my
self
slowly
if you are patient and tender.
I will open drawers
that mostly stay closed
and bring out places and people and things
sounds and smells, loves and frustrations, hopes
and sadnesses,
bits and pieces of decades of my life
that have been grabbed off
in chunks
and found lying in my hands.
they have eaten
their way into my memory,
carved their way into
my heart.
altogether-you or i will never see them-
they are me.
if you regard them lightly,
deny that they are important
or worse, judge them
i will quietly, slowly,
begin to wrap them up,
in small pieces of velvet,
like worn silver and gold jewelry,
tuck them away
in a small wooden chest of drawers
and close.

"...I swore never to be silent whenever human beings endure suffering and humiliation. We must always take sides. Neutrality helps the oppressor, never the victim. Silence encourages the tormentor, never the tormented..."

my thought of yesterday: often times... it seems as though when we feel we lack freedom- we tend make some of our most destructive decisions. and often times, in the midst of immense freedom, we lack the wisdom to cherish the precious moments.

“My great mistake, the fault for which I can't forgive myself, is that one day I ceased my obstinate pursuit of my own individuality.” Oscar Wilde

"...now i long for one of those old, meandering, dry, uninhabited roads, which lead away from towns...
where travelers are not too often to be met;
where my spirit is free;
where the walls and fences are not cared for;
where your head is more in heaven
than your feet are on earth..."

"To free us from the expectations of others, to give us back to ourselves -- there lies the great, singular power of self-respect."
Joan Didion

"1. Be Proactive.
2. Begin with the end in mind.
3. Put first things first.
4. Think win win.
5. Seek first to understand . . . then to be understood.
6. Synergize.
7. Sharpen the saw."
Stephen R. Covey

"You cannot make it as wandering generality. you must become a meaningful specific."
Zig Ziglar

"It's not what you look at that matters, it's what you see."
Henry David Thoreau

"Love the moment. Flowers grow out of dark moments. Therefore, each moment is vital. It affects the whole. Life is a succession of such moments and to live each, is to succeed."
Corita Kent

"Now is the accepted time, not tomorrow, not some more convenient season.
It is today that our best work can be done and not some future day or future year.
It is today that we fit ourselves for the greater usefulness of tomorrow.
Today is the seed time, now are the hours of work, and tomorrow comes the harvest and the playtime." W.E.B. Du Bois
